These are completely handmade, not just the leather cover and strap but also the paper which is sourced from treeless materials. The paper is made by hand in the same way as papyrus and is produced in Nepal. It is a completely renewable material as the plant grows again from the same root system. It is acid-free, plain and has a very low environmental impact. The leather is a natural by-product from the same region, is thick and subtle.
These have been produced with Fairtrade in mind and directly benefit the communities in Nepal.
Sustainably sourced Buffalo Leather and treeless (Lokta Papyrus) paper (96 pages). The paper is quite rough around the edges and is a feature of this type of material. The Lokta bush grows wild in the Himalayas and only at altitudes of 2000 to 3000 meters. It is a completely renewable resource as each plant regenerates from the same root system. The paper is plain, acid and tree-free and is widely regarded as one of the world's finest papers.
